Built and Yours

I paid £40,000 to three developers. None of them could fix a single thing. Then I built it myself.

Over two years I paid three different developers to build and then fix the same website. The last of them took six months and twenty thousand pounds, and what I got back was something I could not edit, could not extend, and could not get a straight answer about when it broke. Eventually I stopped waiting for replies and learned the stack properly myself. I rebuilt the whole thing in under a month. It now runs a paid membership, takes payments, releases content on a schedule and sends every email it is supposed to send, and I have not needed to ask a developer for anything since.

Send me your website. I'll send you back what it could be.

Most people buying a website get a proposal, a mood board and a promise. I would rather show you. Tell me where your site is now, and within a week I will send you a working preview of your new one, built from your own words and photos. You can click around it, book something, and see exactly what you would be getting before you spend a penny.

  1. You send me your site. Just the link, and a line about what is frustrating you: bookings that go somewhere else, a site you cannot update, or a platform that costs too much every month.
  2. I build a working preview. Private, with your name on it and your own content in it, and it works rather than just looking nice.
  3. We walk through it together. Fifteen minutes on a call. If you love it, I will give you one fixed price and a start date. If you do not, that is absolutely fine and you owe me nothing.

I paid for three developers who could not deliver, so I know how it feels to hand over money for something you have not seen. A working preview answers the questions a proposal cannot: whether I understand your business, whether it feels like you, and whether it actually works.

I build a few previews each week, so I cannot say yes to everyone, and I will tell you straight away if yours is not a good fit. Your preview stays private, is never shown to anyone else without your permission, and is taken down after 30 days if you decide not to go ahead.

What I build

Sites that have to actually do something. Paid memberships and gated access, Stripe payments and subscriptions, content that unlocks on a timetable, admin screens that a normal person can use without training, booking and webinar delivery, and transactional email that lands in the inbox rather than the spam folder.

Almost all of it is Next.js and Supabase, which is the same stack running my own business, dadhugsforyoursoul.com. That site has thousands of paying customers on it and I built and maintain every part of it. You are not paying me to learn on your project.

See examples of what I have built, from my own platform to previews for training providers, coaches, a founders' network and a biotech manufacturer.

An admin screen with a movable content block, a formatting toolbar and a text editor
The editor I use to run my own business. Content blocks that move up and down, a video picker, plain English labels. No developer, no ticket, no waiting.

How it works

Once you have seen your preview and want to go ahead, we agree a fixed price before I start, with a deposit up front, and that price does not move unless you change what you have asked for.

The build carries on the same way the preview started. You keep the private link, I keep putting work behind it, and you tell me what is wrong as it appears rather than at the end. There is no long silence in the middle where you wonder what you are paying for.

I take one build at a time, which is why they take weeks instead of months.

At sign off, when the final payment clears, the whole thing transfers into your name: the code, the repository, the hosting, the database, the payment account. Nothing is held back and there is no fee for any of it. I hold the repository while the work is in progress, which I will tell you to your face is for my protection rather than yours, and it ends the day the build does.

Builds start at £4,000, and most sit somewhere between that and £50,000 depending on how much the thing has to do.

Why it is faster

There is one person on your build and it is the person you spoke to. Nothing has to be explained twice, nothing waits in a queue behind another client, and there is no account manager translating what you said into a ticket and losing half of it on the way.

Most of what you are likely to need, I have already built once for myself. I know where those things break, because they have broken on me, at six in the morning, with real customers watching.

A thirty day programme with the first five days unlocked and the rest marked locked
A live customer view on my own site. Five days released, the rest held back until their date arrives. Scheduling like this runs on its own and has to keep working at six in the morning whether anyone is watching or not.

What I will not do

  • I am not the cheapest and I am not trying to be. If price is the only thing that matters, there are plenty of people who will quote you less and I would rather you used them.
  • I don't bill by the hour, because that arrangement rewards me for being slow.
  • I will not put you on a template and describe it as bespoke.
  • I will not take your project hostage. Once the build is paid for, everything goes into your name and I keep no access, no accounts and no leverage. There is no handover fee and no charge for leaving.
  • If I think what you are asking for will not work, or that you could buy something off the shelf for a tenth of the price, I will tell you before you pay me rather than afterwards.

Start with a conversation

Tell us what you have, what it needs to do, and what has gone wrong with it so far. I take the first call and will give you a straight answer on whether this is worth building and roughly what it would cost. If it is not a fit, I'll say so rather than sell you something.

Rather see it first? Ask for a free preview of your new site. Or run the free site check on the site you already have. It takes about thirty seconds and tells you what is slowing it down, what is missing, and what to fix first.
